Keep Crying Or I Will Give You Something To Cry About

I am a mother of three boys.  Two of my sons are tweens. And God help me, I also have a three year old. He cries at least once a day. Sometimes, I don’t even understand why my child is crying. It could be due to being tired. Or being selfish. Sometimes the reason why he cries is just down right manipulation. He knows how to push my buttons, and I have to be strong.

But as a child of the old school, I know that if he were with my Mother or (God rest her soul) my Grandmother, his crying episodes would not stand a chance unless he was in absolute danger.  I say this because I was raised hearing the following words.

“Keep Crying or I will give you something to cry about.”

And when I heard those words along with seeing that stern look in their eyes, I knew immediately to straighten up and get it together. All of that crying and hollering in their eyes was extra.  But looking back, I see that maybe they were not trying to deal with the situation or take time to acknowledge my feelings or my inability to express my feelings.

That’s pretty Dr. Spock of me, isn’t it? But that’s the thing. I try to take the time to talk and understand what’s going. Sometimes I actually encourage a good cry because I know that he will cry himself to sleep. I will admit, I will blow my top a few times out of frustration. But most times, I am just amazed to see how long he can keep it going.

Like this moment here.  I mean he has a tear and everything..

Reason Why My Child Is Crying

And that is the life of a preschooler. Everything is a crisis. Everything needs to be addressed right now. As parents, we have to just make sure that the ends do justify the means.

What do you think? Name a moment that you remember your child crying. Did you give them something to cry about? Leave a comment.

Reasons my Kid is Crying

This post was inspired by the novel Reasons My Kid Is Crying by Greg Pembroke who captures frustrating yet hilarious parenting moments through perfectly captioned photos of unhappy kids. Sounds like you've got your hands full! My child used to cry when I just mentioned the words 'time out'-it worked every time.
