Do You Battle During The Holiday Season?

When I think of the spirit of the season, I think of white lights, long lines, cheery music, great food and gathering with family and friends.  I will also admit this love hate relationship with the holiday season. I love this time of year because of what it represents. I love the spirit of the season. The spirit of hope and thankfulness. The spirit of peace and joy also come into full swing during this time of year. But what I hate about this season is the sense for some of gloom and despair. Of feeling hopeless based on what we see, and feel and touch. That’s the battle of this season.
holidays, hope, love

As I get older, I believe I am more aware of those of those that hate the holiday season more so than those who love it. And I try my best to be sensitive to what is going on around me. This time of year makes should make us all self-aware that it is not simply all about us. In spite of the challenges that we all face throughout life, I try to be mindful of these things.

My life matters.

Someone is going through something far worse than I am right at this very moment.

At least one person on this planet loves me.

God loves me more than that one person.

Because money is the lowest form of wealth, I already am a rich person.

And while the lights, the lines, and the food are the tangible results of the holiday, what I love the most about this time of year realizing that love truly does conquer all.

Know that you are loved.

Because money is the lowest form of wealth, I already am a rich person." That part just touched my heart! This was a wonderful post, Val. It reminds me to pay attention to those that may not enjoy the holidays as much as I do, and be sensitive to what they are going through.

I have never really done the big family thing. I'm used to it being just my mom and my siblings and their children. Now that my mom has passed I spend it with my sister & brotherinlaw and with my bestie and her family. It all works out. I"m thankful for holidays  past, present and future. They make me better.

@loveyoloxo Thanks for sharing. I know when my Grandmama passed, that changed the dynamic of the holidays for us for a minute. My family is small while my hubby's family is huge and I know exactly what you mean about just being thankful for those around you. Appreciate you stopping by.
