June 1984, the movie “Purple Rain” was released. Here are 10 facts from one of the singles released from this sound track that you may not know.

1. Prince directed the music video for “When Doves Cry”. It debuted on MTV in  June of 1984.
2. “When Doves Cry” was the Number One Song on the Billboard 100 for 1984.
3.   “When Doves Cry” was inspired by his relationship    with Vanity 6 member, Susan Moonsie.

4. “When Doves Cry” was #1 on the US Billboard 100 Chart for 5 Weeks From July 7 – August 4, 1984.

5. The is no bassline in the recorded version of the song.

6. Spin Magazine ranked “When Doves Cry” the sixth greatest single of all time.

7. Rolling Stone ranked “When Doves Cry” the 52nd on the list of 500 Greatest Singles of All Time.

8. “When Doves Cry” Knocked out “The Reflex” By Duran Duran from it’s number One slot.

9. The single was certified platinum by selling 2 million units and was the last single to reach platinum at this level before the category was lowered in 1989.

10. “When Doves Cry” was the first single that was released from the 1984 movie, “Purple Rain”
